Aprilia RSV4 R Specifications and Reviews

Victory motorcycles
Aprilia RSV4 R Review
:

Month April 2009 Aprilia RSV4 Factory launched, the new V4, 1000 cc Superbike designed to take the head of the Big Four Japanese superbikes.
In terms of performance there is no doubt it's true there with the best of them, in the second game of power and handling.

But the factory was a very high spec version of this bike, with top quality Öhlins suspension and a wide array of chassis adjustments, to the position of the shaft suspension.

This is needed to validate the engine Aprilia's World Superbike race, Max Biaggi who reached the fourth place in the WSB championship in 2009, very impressive for a new team with brand new bike.

Factory Aprilia says is aimed at motorists most interested in track days or racing, which because it has introduced the R RSV4, low-specification, lower price version pitched more toward mainstream Superbike.

In essence, though, is the same V4 engine power plant, in the same country songs. That means you get the same sound noble, it was hard too, thanks to the cover on the exhaust system only when the emission of noise quietens bike gentlemen who take their measurements, then allows for the remaining time to breathe more freely.

Throttle response is electric, literally and metaphorically, because this is a full fly-by-wire systems, and only occasionally have a bit of remoteness, especially at lower revs.

If not, as touching as well as physical cable set-up and there are a lot of torque to play with the entire range of rotation, although it does not have any hard drive Yamaha R1.
Early in 2009 this machine was fast as anything out there, shout your way to the red line with great power, but now BMW S 1000 RR has arrived and the landscape has changed.

Italian bikes are still breathtakingly fast, make no mistake, but do not have that hit the peak horsepower lately that distinguish the newer BMW - it's slower, although certainly not slow. And it's not as though the German engines provide any lower in the rev range either.

This chassis RSV4 is distinguished as much as anything to do with size, or rather lack of it. This bike is very compact, so much so that taller riders may delay their purchase.

I dealt with the position up but I realized that was too thin on the bike - tucked right behind the screen is not really possible on my 6ft 3in, but the average size of the rider should not have problems.

Positive side of this is that bike agility. Change direction quickly and vigorously, then holding a very tight line even with the flood of power within, to the point where the front wheel started to lift and it would start running wide.
R get Showa suspension with a lower cost than the factory's Öhlins, but you will struggle to see the difference in most situations. Set-up is soft as a standard test track and on the back of the bike was pitching too much out of the corners at high speed at first, but the adjusters do their job and the bike becomes taut and precise.

The main difference between the Öhlins and Showa not so much the performance as the adjustment range available, and as long as you stay within the usual you really do not lose anything.

At the edge of the wheel cornering ability Factory RSV4's forged aluminum will respond better to bump and change the direction of the R's heavy cast, but here in the real world it makes no difference.

And those are the main differences between R and Factory, along with facilities at more expensive version to adjust the steering angle and the head suspension pivot position.

If you ever felt frustrated by not able to do on a bike path, you really should be on the track alone: I can not imagine that the street riders never lost this feature.

That means that although you are saving some £ 2,500 by buying the R, not a factory, you do not experience significant loss of performance or loss of any useful specification.

Also you get the same engine capable of as typical Japanese Superbike - Aprilia possible level of reliability is not quite up to Japanese standards, but they are not far away and of course quite acceptable.

That means this problem is the price. R RSV4 little cost less than a R1 (subject to big price increase for 2010) and about £ 2,000 more than the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.

While it might be faster than the Ninja at the track, the margin was not large, and Yamaha will be a game. Then there's BMW, which in basic form is less than £ 11,000, and even kitted with traction control and ABS race, still cost less than the basic model Aprilia.

And substantially faster, with more natural treatment ... You must really want the Aprilia does not put your money in the German bicycle.

This penalty verdict, very Superbike able to burn to match the performance of most of its competitors, but not the price to beat them
RATING Telegraph Four out of five
THE rival

BMW S 1000 RR Sport £ 12.235
Significantly faster, a little lighter than the Aprilia and with a far superior specification including traction control and ABS race. Without this, the stock version £ 1500 cheaper. Either way, it's hard to go for the Aprilia, but if you do not want a BMW.

Yamaha R1 12.684 GBP
Price R1 has nudged ahead Aprilia £ 1500 because of an increase driven by the strong euro. From the Japanese bikes, characterful R1 R RSV4 will provide the most difficult time in terms of performance, particularly how to drive out the corners.

Honda Fireblade ABS £ 10.971
Honda's 2010 price increase was much smaller than the seminal Fireblade Yamaha and offer the same level of performance, Honda build quality, a journey, it's easy nature and brake-by-wire brake impressive choice of ABS and balance system 600 pounds. The Fireblade is also more suitable for taller riders.

What if Ferrari Built a Motorcycle?

If Ducatis just ain't sexy enough for ya, designer Amir Glinik has dreamed up this hypothetical two-wheeled Ferrari concept that incorporates a V-4 engine sliced out of an Enzo V-12, wrapped in super-sleek bodywork.

Ferrari Motorcycle Concept EngineAccording to Autoblog, the concept bike boasts a weatherproof touch-screen LCD, controls inspired by an F-16 fighter jet, and Formula 1-type buttons... but then again, Glinik can pen virtually any design element he wants to since his creation is only a rendering, right?

Does this futuristic concept make you wish Ferrari built a bike, or would you rather set your sights elsewhere?

The new YZF-R1 LE sports Valentino Rossi livery just like his YZF-M1 MotoGP bike, but will come in very limited numbers.

MotoGP Technology with looks to match.

The new 2010 Yamaha YZF-R1LE not only gives you much of Valentino Rossi's championship technology, but also his championship look and style. The R1 is the first ever production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. The Result? Outrageous torque and raw, high-rpm power providing incredibly smooth power delivery out of the corners. While the bold Fiat Yamaha team graphics provide incredibly smooth style.

Highlights:

New for 2010:
= The YZF-R1 LE is a limited edition Valentino Rossi / Fiat Yamaha replica complete with the number "46" and "The Doctor" logos, including a replica of Valentino Rossi's signature on the fuel tank.

Features and Benefits (USA):

Key Features:
= The YZF-R1 garnered the prestigious award as the 2009 Motorcycle of the Year from Motorcyclist Magazine. The YZF-R1 was chosen for its MotoGP®-inspired engine and chassis technology, and for its luxurious fit and finish.
= Back for 2010, the YZF-R1 is the only production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. Crossplane technology, first pioneered in MotoGP® racing with the M1, puts each piston 90° from the next, with an uneven firing interval of 270° - 180°- 90°- 180°. This uneven order does an amazing thing… it actually lets power build more smoothly. That means smooth roll-on delivery out of the corners, with outstanding tractability, followed by very strong high rpm power. It's a feeling that's simply unmatched, like having two engines in one: the low-rpm torquey feel of a twin with the raw, high rpm power of an inline four. This breakthrough technology on the YZF-R1 represents a paradigm shift in both technology and performance.
= This R1 keeps all the technological superiorities developed for its predecessor: YCC-T™ (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) is MotoGP® inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. YCC-I® is Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake which is a variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. The fuel injection system provides optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power and smooth throttle response.
= The R1 features Yamaha D-MODE (or drive mode) with rider-selectable throttle control maps to program YCC-T performance characteristics for riding conditions. The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. The "A" mode lets the rider enjoy sportier engine response in the low- to mid-speed range, and the "B" mode offers response that is somewhat less sharp for riding situations that require especially sensitive throttle operation. Switching maps is as easy as pushing a button on the handlebar switch.
= In keeping with this machine's exceptional cornering ability and crisp handling, the aluminum frame has been designed to offer exceptional rigidity balance. The rear frame is lightweight Controlled-Fill die-cast magnesium, contributing the optimum mass centralization. Suspension includes SOQI front forks which use one of the tricks developed for our winning MotoGP® bikes: independent damping. The left fork handles compression damping and the right side handles the rebound damping. And the rear shock adopts bottom linkage for optimum suspension characteristics.
= The bodywork does more than add break-away-from-the-crowd styling with its more serious, less busy look. The side fairing is smooth for a sleek appearance. And, instead of the usual four-bulb headlight design, the R1 has only two projector-type bulbs mounted closer to the nose of the bike. This positions ram air ducts closer in for a more compact, smooth look. In addition, the rounded lenses are unique to the supersport industry.

Engine:
= Crossplane crankshaft technology proven in victory after victory on MotoGP® machines provides a high-tech uneven firing interval. Unlike typical inline-four engine design, where the two outer and two inner pistons move together in pairs with 180° intervals, the crossplane crankshaft has each connecting rod 90° with a unique firing order of 270° - 180° - 90° - 180°. This overcomes the inherent fluctuations in inertial torque during each engine revolution, and the accompanying peaky torque characteristics. Instead, combustion torque continues to build, giving the rider more linear throttle response with awesome power and traction out of the corners.
= To maximize rider comfort as well as power output, the engine adopts a coupling-type balancer that rotates in the opposite direction as the crankshaft.
= This engine features forged aluminum pistons to take maximum advantage of the power characteristics. Titanium intake valves are lightweight.
= A forced-air intake system is adopted to increase intake efficiency by using the natural airflow during riding to pressurize the air in the air box. This contributes to outstanding power delivery characteristics in the high-speed range, while the design also helps to minimize intake noise.
= Slipper-type back torque-limiting clutch greatly facilitates braking/downshifting from high speed.
= The exhaust system is meticulously designed to enhance engine output while, thanks to its three-way catalyst technology, also reducing exhaust emissions. The silencer is a single expansion type, and the sound coming through from the unique crossplane crankshaft- equipped engine is unlike any other inline-four cylinder production supersport.
= This fuel-injected engine takes full advantage of YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle), the MotoGP®-inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. There's also YCC-I, Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake, the variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. Fuel injectors have 12 holes for optimum fuel atomization that translates to the most power from every fuel charge.
= Have it your way, thanks to Yamaha D-MODE (or "Drive Mode") variable throttle control. There are three modes that control how YCC-T responds to throttle input from the rider. The selectable "A" mode puts more emphasis on engine response in low to midrange rpm. "B" mode, on the other hand, provides less sharp response to input for riding situations that require especially sensitive throttle operation. The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. Selecting the map you want is as easy as pressing a button on the handlebars.

Chassis/Suspension:
= The frame has a combination of uncompromising rigidity where needed along with carefully achieved flex for the precise rigidity balance this bike needs to give the rider the full benefit of its handling and engine characteristics. It is a sophisticated combination of Controlled-Fill die-cast, stamping, and gravity casting… the exact technology needed for each portion of this advanced frame.
= SOQI front forks take a page from the championship-winning design of our MotoGP® weapon, the M1. Since both forks always move together, compression damping duties can be confined to the left fork, while rebound damping is precisely handled by the right fork, reducing oil cavitation.
= The SOQI rear shock features both high and low speed compression damping plus an easy-to-use screw hydraulic adjustment for preload. This unit also adopts a pillow-ball-type joint for exceptional shock absorption, road hold feeling, and damper response. To achieve maximum performance, a bottom linkage is used to work with the rest of the chassis refinements for brilliant, crisp handling characteristics.
= Factory racers get machines tailored to their preferences. Welcome to the club. R1 has adjustable footrests, with a 15mm height and 3mm front-to-rear adjustment.
= The press-formed fuel tank has a shape developed using 3-D simulation analysis technology. The elongated shape of the tank allows it to fit neatly within the frame in a way that promotes concentration of mass.

Additional Features:
= The instrumentation includes everything a rider wants to know, including gear position.

2010 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883L Review and Comparison

Harley-Davidson Sportster has turned out to be more than 50 years now! That longevity unequaled in the car market. We chose the Sportster 883 for our shootout because: A) is the only model of HD that could qualify for a sub-1000cc displacement cutoff of us, and, B), it sports an unbeatable price. In fact, we tested 883 Low is the most affordable travel on the line Harley at $ 6,999 (black) and $ 7,289 for other colors, like blue bike we tested.

More parts and stripped down than shoot competition, the visual difference from just a flashy Sportster. Much more slender, with narrow tank and frame, reducing his own Sporty style with aspects of the most basic of riding. No flash, no bells and whistles, just an engine and two wheels with a seat, tank and handlebars. its classic looks, featuring the V-Twin powerplant and staggered exhaust, creating a pure blasphemy to see or photograph from the other side from the right.

And while it looks different, Harley felt even more obvious once perched behind the controls. Better classified as standard than a crusier, the upright position contrasts Sportster's ride-forward ergos feet from the shooting competition. The purpose built for small-statured, Low Sportster features close reach to the bars and pegs. 26.3-inch high seat, combined with a very slim width, making the effort to touch the ground.

While quite beneficial for the intended audience, which spelled trouble for the small ergos our testing crew. All six feet or higher, every test rider found the position too narrow for their tastes. In particular, all do not like the placement near the handlebar. Having ridden the previous Sportsters (including the 2005 Sportster Project Bike), we find an alternative placement of bar stock or aftermarket unit is placed higher, makes a world of difference.

"When I first sat on this bike, I felt very uncomfortable," Joey admitted Agustin, our guest videographer. "Saya''6'1 and for me just felt like I was sitting on a bar stool. I felt awkward upright and think I would lose my balance was just promoted to the gas station."
The ergos take some getting used to, but the Sportster rider with a win over a gallant Twin. 883 fire and air-conditioning plant shakes, vibrates and rolls out of character. Undersquare only in the test configuration, the cylinder 76.2mm-wide walking up and down stroke 96.8mm, with a 8.9:1 compression ratio.

Rear-wheel dyno numbers peaked at 46.6 hp and 45.3 lb-ft of torque, mid-pack in our group test. However, Sporty pack a punch in the street, with the feel and acceleration of throttle peppiest endearing fun for our testers.

"Harley is the best machine - have a range of tensile strength," said MCUSA Road Test Editor Adam Waheed. "Top-end is lackluster and not nearly as strong as the Yamaha, but overall I liked the best."

Agustin also found surprising power: "I continue to underestimate the engine during take-off at first. I felt my body to pay back some times forget that the strength of that."

Dyno charts and descriptions of full-engines motorists unfair, as the Sportster the best sound as well. Motor HD has the most personality, so far. This is one of arbitrary judgments that must drive the Harley critics and competitors nuts to hear, but less perfect Sportster V-Twin, in which more is to give rebuttal what some riders want.

The weakness of the machine rawer feel is vibration. While Harley use rubber mount, engine vibration is still quite vague to obscure the mirror at times and motorists get battered in the Sportster saddle more than delicate rival ships.

Vibration is not entirely to blame though, with the most rigid chassis Sportster parking. Minimum of 3.62 inches of suspension travel front / rear 1.63 inches, allowing imperfections many jerks on the road through the bar and chairs. While the chair itself, it is the most serious of the group, the description of a bar stool before the fair.

"It was quite rough as hell on the highway evenly," confirms Joey.

Non-adjustable 39mm fork and preload adjustable rear shock did not inhibit the rides excited, although not low ground clearance. erode even at moderate lean pegs - real pity as the Sportster, as the name suggests, encourages more aggressive pace with the rising upright position and lean frame. Steering geometry differences further illustrate the point, sweeping the two degrees is more severe, traces of 1.1 inches and 4.5 inches shorter wheelbase is more compact than the nearest competitor.
A thin and lightweight form of 572-lb curb weight (the lighter Honda only) low-speed maneuvering is not the easiest to run, with a short reach to the ground is very helpful - a real plus for entry-level Sportster 883 rider to whom to serve.

Transmission 5-speed dental give change in the most direct sense. Where the metric is a quick snick, snick, snick scrolling through the tranny, the HD is more of an accidental click, click, click. It's not better or worse than the Japanese model of slick-shifting per se, only different (there is that word again ...).

Brakes - caliper 292mm disc single and two-piston front discs and 260mm single-piston caliper rear - the average of estimates evaluated by our testers. Although not the most impressive dual-disc package slow things down with reasonable confidence and feel positive lever.

Despite displays at least information (analog speedometer, trip meter and the idiot light) on the instrument cluster Sportster redeem himself by being the only console looks to speed without looking down through their placement above the steering head. Fit and finish the second level after the Star, with clean instrumentation and switchgear. Self-canceling turn signals reach a particular compliment, features a bicycle valued at $ 7,000. We're not big fans of the weak light, but, or the low range of 145 miles (based on the efficiency of our observed 44 mpg) offered by it's tiny 3.3 gallon gas tank.

The low MSRP May be the biggest highlights of the Sportster. A Vivid Black base model retails for $ 6,999, with the solid colors, like our test unit, an extra $ 290. The 883 Iron version, with its less dramatic ergos and a blacked-out styling, costs an extra grand at $ 7,999 (in hindsight, the Iron-May have been a better match shootout, but the 883L We Requested from HD). Added onto the value factor is a 24-month warranty, a full year longer any of the shootout Rivals. It challenges the common assertion That Harley's are always more expensive than the competition.

All Told We enjoyed getting to know the old Sportster again. May it not be the ideal mount for larger riders, but it is an affordable, and fun, entry to the HD brand. At the very least, it's Different ... It is, after all, a Harley.
